Katharine Hepburn at Dick Cavett's III

Mann says:
....Not simply a liberated woman who'd lived by her on rules, Hepburn was a figure quite apart of the norm. "I am a missing link", she admited to Cavett. " I don't belong anywhere". Considered from this vantage point, her relationships with women might also be better understood.

But she said:

No, no - yeah, I think so, I mean you're one of a group - you're one of a group, so that you don't go away from that. You know, you remain the sister - in my instance, I remain the older sister, I remain "Aunt Kat" to practically all of them. 'Cause I was sort of a loner, so I was "Aunt Kat". Even to my sisters - not to my brothers but to my sisters, who are like my daughers, I'm a missing...link. I am, I don't belong anywhere, I'm like my father and mother's - I don't know what, the extra...one, you know. But I wasn't a child, I was...it was a funny arrangement
